Medgate Connect: How it works

1

Teleconsultation & referral

Your Medgate doctor decides that an extended diagnosis is necessary and recommends the Medgate Connect service if there is a pharmacy near you. You will then receive the Medgate Connect prescription and the treatment plan by e-mail or app.

2

Book an appointment & visit the pharmacy

You make an appointment at the pharmacy with one of the pharmacies on the treatment plan and bring your Medgate Connect prescription, your health insurance card and your smartphone (you will need it for the teleconsultation).

3

Examination in the pharmacy

  • If a laboratory analysis in the pharmacy on site and/or a sensor examination is necessary (e.g. listening to the heart or lungs), a teleconsultation with your Medgate doctor will be initiated directly in the pharmacy.
  • If only a blood sample needs to be taken and subsequently analysed in an external laboratory, this will be carried out directly. For stool or urine tests, you can obtain a test kit from the pharmacy to send by post. You will discuss the results with your Medgate doctor at your scheduled follow-up appointment*. We will contact you immediately if the laboratory results are critical.
4

Live analysis & discussion

Pharmacy staff provide support during the examination and forward the measured values to the doctor in real time. They can make an immediate assessment.

5

Prescriptions

If required, you will immediately receive a doctor's certificate or a prescription which you can fill directly at the pharmacy.

Important

Bring your smartphone, your health insurance card and, if issued, the laboratory prescription.

FAQ

What is Medgate Connect?

Medgate Connect allows you to have medical examinations carried out easily at a participating pharmacy - without having to visit a doctor. If your Medgate doctor considers an examination to be useful during a telephone or video consultation, you can have it carried out directly at a partner pharmacy.

Do I need an appointment for the examination at the pharmacy?

Yes, you must make an appointment with the pharmacy in question before you go to the pharmacy for an examination. You will find the contact details in your treatment plan or on this website.

Which pharmacies are taking part?

You will find a list of participating pharmacies in your treatment plan or online on our website.

Which examinations are possible?

The following tests, among others, can be carried out in the pharmacy:
Blood pressure and oxygen measurement
Examinations with otoscope and stethoscope
 Blood, stool and urine analyses

How long does it take until my results are available?

The results of the sensor tests are analysed directly on site by your Medgate doctor

Some laboratory tests are analysed directly in the pharmacy - this only takes a few minutes.

Komplexere Untersuchungen werden an ein Labor geschickt und benötigen einige Tage. As soon as the results are available, a Medgate doctor will discuss them with you.

Who pays for the examination?

Cost coverage is determined by the insurance model of your health insurer. In general, the following cases are distinguished:

1. Insured individuals in pilot projects (Concordia – smartDoc, Sanitas – CallMed / Compact One)
In these models, the health insurers cover:

  • the telemedicine consultation
  • the costs of the sensor examination
  • as well as the consultation fee of the pharmacy

  • Additional services – such as laboratory analyses at the pharmacy, external laboratory examinations, and medications – will be billed as usual according to the terms of your basic insurance. You can find information on this in the general terms and conditions of your insurance model.

    2. Insured individuals not participating in a pilot project (see the list under "Who can use this service?")
The service can also be used outside of pilot projects – depending on the support from your health insurer. In this case, billing for all services (telemedicine, laboratory, medications) will be done according to the terms of your basic insurance.

What happens if further treatment is necessary?

If your results show that further treatment is necessary, your Medgate doctor will discuss the next steps with you.

I have questions about the appointment or want to postpone my follow-up appointment with the doctor

For questions or appointment changes, please contact us via the administrative chat in the Medgate app or by phone at: +41 61 377 88 85

How do I obtain the Medgate Connect service?

The use of Medgate Connect is carried out in close coordination with our medical professionals. After a telemedicine assessment, our doctors evaluate whether further diagnostics are medically justified. The decision regarding such an examination is made by the treating medical team. There is no entitlement to specific examinations.

Do health insurers have access to my medical data?

No, your medical data is not shared with your health insurer. As is customary in Switzerland, insurers do not have access to your medical history or diagnoses. All medical information collected as part of Medgate Connect – such as findings, laboratory results, or medical assessments – is stored exclusively in your personal patient file at Medgate. This allows our doctors to refer to this data during future consultations and provide you with efficient care. Of course, we strictly adhere to the legal data protection regulations in Switzerland and treat your data with the utmost confidentiality.
